TEKS
The Texas Essential Knowlege and Skills (TEKS) are the Texas Education Agency (TEA) adopted student expectations and learning objectives for a course. Physics and chemistry courses have specific TEKS that are covered throughout the year. The most recent physics TEKS were adopted by the TEA for use beginning in the 2010-2011 school year. The TEKS are the objectives that the state uses when constructing both the TAKS test and EOC exam. A copy of the chemistry TEKS can be found here.
Standardized Testing in 2017-2018
In recent years, the Texas state legislature reduced the number of EOC exams required for students from 15 to 5. In the 2017-2018 school year, chemistry is not currently a required EOC exam for graduation. Students may be given chemistry field tests, benchmark exams, or other common assessments in order to assess their progress towards mastery of the student expectations.
